Welcome to Dokkum
Enjoy and experience the fortress city of the Wadden sea
Experience Dokkum this summer
If you want to experience a historic city, then Dokkum is really the place to be. ‘Smûk’ in Frisian, beautiful, clean and not too big. The strongholds, the Admiralty, the canals with its beautiful buildings, the Bonifatius Chapel, the Ice Fountain, the hotel that received its first guests in 1584 and the cosiness of the shopping streets, terraces and beer breweries; a perfect place to stay! With the added bonus of the beautiful and diverse surroundings of the Wadden sea and the Wouden. Welcome to Dokkum!
The history of Dokkum starts in the year 754 with the assassination of missionary Boniface and his 52 companions. Not a really nice start, but an event that has given Dokkum an unforgettable place in history to this day.
